In 2008, Dance Umbrella commissioned and produced Overture 2012: Power and Passion, a large-scale work from Royston Maldoom. Set to Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony and performed by 120 young people at the Royal Albert Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra, it was an astonishing achievement.

During the rehearsal period, filmmaker Gerald Fox, assisted by two young apprentices, documented the making of the 50-minute piece. Make it Work charts the creation of one movement of the symphony, allowing a rare insight into the work of a world class choreographer and celebrating the extraordinary accomplishment of the young dancers.
