Dance Umbrella identifies, nurtures, supports and showcases the most exciting talent in new dance. We develop long-term relationships with artists and identify appropriate platforms for their work.
Dance Umbrella is committed to the development of artists, whose growth can be seen across festivals (Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Richard Alston Dance Company, Stephen Petronio Company, Michael Clark Company, Mark Morris Dance Group).
We also encourage artists to take risks and provide a platform for doing so (Rosemary Lee, Jonathan Burrows, Wendy Houstoun, Rosemary Butcher).
Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Duke/Duke/Palermo/Svendsen and Ben Wright are artists who have moved from presenting a Brief Encounter (short works by talented new choreographers or established artists) into the main context of the festival.
We are equally committed to bringing new work from artists who wouldn’t otherwise be seen in the UK (Marcelo Evelin, Frédérick Gravel, Beth Gill, Andros Zins-Browne).
