A Brief Encounter with...CHRISTIAN RIZZO /
CATY OLIVE (FRANCE)
100% Polyester (Objet Dansant A Définir N°36)
Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadler's Wells
Sat 15 & Sun 16 October
Performed prior to Paris Opera Ballet
Christian Rizzo's initial concept for 100% Polyester (Objet dansant à définir n°36) came from the wish to present a performance where the physical body is missing. Siamese-twin dresses, attached at the wrists, are suspended above a path of small electric fans. As the electronic music rises, the dresses begin to gently float, at first almost imperceptibly, and then in an ethereal waltz around the performance space.
With lighting designed by Caty Olive that hypnotically plays between illumination and shadow, 100% Polyester is a intriguing duet for air and fabric.
‘A thrilling duo indeed.’
Le Monde
