Paul-André Fortier (Canada)
Solo 30x30 (London Premiere)

Days Out

Liverpool Street (adjacent to the station)
Wed 3 October - Thu 1 November

Part of Dance Umbrella Outdoors (includes location map)

900 minutes of intimacy between a man and a city, Solo 30x30 is a
30-minute dance performed for 30 consecutive days, in the same place,
at the same time, come rain, hail or shine.

This free, outdoor event, created and performed by Paul-André Fortier, is designed to be part of the city and its urban activity. Fortier gives you the opportunity to experience your local environment in a totally new way…
up to 30 times.

Previously, Solo 30x30 has transformed the streetscapes of Newcastle, Nancy, Ottawa, Yamaguchi, Montréal and Bolzano. Now, it’s London’s turn.

‘Fortier’s newest work takes contemporary dance out of the theatre
and drops it into the swarming, chaotic, smelly heart of the city.’
THE OTTAWA CITIZEN

ASSOCIATED WORKS:
Fortier frequently encourages other creators to contribute to his work. In London, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, photographer Hugo Glendinning and video artists the Honey Brothers, have been invited to develop works using Solo 30x30 as a springboard. These works have an independent life.

Solo 30x30 Exhibition
Wed 3 October – Fri 9 November 2007
Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate

The video installation and exhibition present a number of works from artists inspired by previous performances of Solo 30x30 in cities around the world.

Tue 30 October

The Great Hall, Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate

Six composers from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama have each developed their own musical responses to Paul-André Fortier's innovative dance piece, Solo 30x30.

These new pieces for percussion quartet and electronics will be publicly premiered with Fortier simultaneously performing his 30-minute dance, surrounded by the musicians.

This unique event takes Solo 30x30 out of its usual outdoor, urban environment and re-contextualises the dance amid the vibrant music it has inspired.
