RACHID OURAMDANE / ASSOCIATION FIN NOVEMBRE (FRANCE)
Les Morts Pudiques (UK Premiere)
Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadler’s Wells
Sat 8 & Sun 9 October
Rachid Ouramdane's starting point for Les morts Pudiques (Discreet Deaths) was to use an Internet search engine to discover how youth, together with death, is depicted on the World Wide Web. The resulting piece explores the death penalty for young offenders in the USA, suicide attacks perpetrated by young Muslims, the teenage penchant for gothic wear as an expression of rebellion and incidences of youth suicide. The dance itself is shaped by the search results and is expressed as a sequence of mortal transformations.
‘…technically sophisticated, conceptually fascinating, brilliantly danced and disquieting as only the best art can be…’ The New York Times
