ASSOCIATION NOA / COMPANY VINCENT MANTSOE (South Africa)
Men-Jaro (UK Premiere)

South Bank Centre: Queen Elizabeth Hall
Tue 17 & Wed 18 October

Vincent Mantsoe and South African composer Anthony Caplan have joined forces to explore contemporary forms of traditional African dance and music.

An astonishingly intense, physical performer, Mantsoe leads an ensemble of five dancers, who are joined on stage by five musicians from the African Music Workshop Ensemble. The choreography is exquisitely crafted in response to the intricate rhythms and patterns of native voices and an original score played on indigenous southern African instruments.

‘Out of the glorious melody emerges a chevron of five multi-racial dancers…connected by an invisible thread of rhythm, a shared membrane of humanity.’
The Star, South Africa

Dance Umbrella’s presentation of Men-Jaro is supported by The Edwin Fox Foundation.
