Dance for People with Parkinson’s
Seminar and Workshop

November 7, 2008 10am to 3.30pm
English National Ballet Studios, Kensington, London SW7

An introduction to the Mark Morris Dance Group/Brooklyn Parkinson Group’s
“Dance for Parkinson’s Disease Program”

Presented by Dance Umbrella, Mark Morris Dance Group (USA) and Brooklyn Parkinson Group, an affiliate of National Parkinson Foundation (USA)

Introduction

Through a partnership with the Brooklyn Parkinson’s Group, dancers from Mark Morris Dance Group lead weekly customised dance workshops for people with Parkinson's disease and their carers at the Mark Morris Dance Center with live musical accompaniment. This program began as a monthly workshop, and became a weekly event. Now, Brooklyn Parkinson Group members come to the Dance Center twice each week - once for the workshop, and once to meet and practice on their own in MMDG's facilities.

You are invited to attend a seminar with members of MMDG and BPG to hear more about this unique programme. There will also be a talk from a UK based artist who has studied the programme and a talk from the neuroscience perspective. After a sandwich lunch, you are able to experience a workshop first-hand with members of MMDG.

Who is it for?

Anyone who works with people with Parkinson’s or who has an interest in this field. Dance practitioners currently working or interested in working with people with Parkinson’s.
