With only a pair of scissors, sheets of newspaper, some sellotape and a big sheet of blue plastic, Tiago Guedes creates for his audience a panoramic world, the images from which resonate in the mind of the spectator long after the stage fades to black.
Various Materials refuses to conform to the traditional notion of what a dance performance should be. At a time when dance is blurring boundaries between artistic disciplines, Tiago uses simple gestural language and everyday objects to create and then destroy a gallery of art. Like Banksy’s art in the public domain, Various Materials exists for a moment in time, and then is gone.
