A Brief Encounter With…Rachel Krische (UK)
The Swimmer

Tue 7 & Wed 8 October, 6.45pm
(performed prior to Stephen Petronio Company)
Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall

In September 2007, Rachel Krische participated in an intensive project in which 22 dance practitioners worked with Deborah Hay, US choreographer and mentor, to re-interpret one of her solos. Rachel learned Deborah’s piece The Runner, followed by a three-month daily practise ritual, slowly developing the work in a new and personal way.

The Swimmer is Rachel’s unique adaptation of Deborah’s solo. While the work follows Deborah’s set choreographic instructions, the execution is very much Rachel’s, resulting in an intense solo which celebrates choreography as a living entity passed from one creator to another.

The Swimmer is part of Dance Umbrella’s Brief Encounter series, in which short works by talented new choreographers or established artists are performed prior to main stage shows.

‘Rachel Krische is something akin to a female Woody Allen...feisty and intrepid.’ TIME OUT
