The Stop Quartet

First seen in London in the 1996 festival, Dance Umbrella has co-commissioned this revival of Jonathan Burrows' celebrated piece The Stop Quartet. Opening with an extended duet, two men are gradually joined by a third and then a fourth dancer. The choreography builds a complex web of rhythmic counterpoint between the performers, whose constant watchful play anticipates the more recent duets of Burrows and Matteo Fargion.

Original music is by Fargion and Kevin Volans, with lighting by Michael Hulls. This production features a cast including Burrows, Henry Montes and Ragnhild Olsen, all of whom performed in the original work.
