Days Out

With the assistance of Bob Lockyer, former Executive Producer Dance Programmes at the BBC, Betsy Gregory, Dance Umbrella's Artistic Director and Julia Carruthers, former Head of Dance and Performance at Southbank Centre have curated two evenings of rarely seen contemporary dance programmes from the BBC television archive.

Don't miss this opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse into the formative years of Dance Umbrella and the UK contemporary dance scene.

PROGRAMME 1

Includes extracts from Nympheas by Robert Cohan, Stoics by Jonathan Burrows and Christopher Bruce’s Swansong featuring the original English National Ballet cast. Plus Omnibus overviews from Dance Umbrella 82 and 84 with footage from Richard Alston’s Dutiful Ducks (danced by Michael Clark) and Mark Morris’s Songs that Tell a Story. Also in the programme: William Tuckett’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and extracts from Tom Jobe’s Rite Electric for London Contemporary Dance Theatre.

PROGRAMME 2

Includes Jane Dudley’s Harmonica Breakdown, and extracts from Hymns by Jonathan Burrows and Siobhan Davies’ Bridge the Distance (including the central solo danced by Patrick Harding-Irmer). Programme Two’s Omnibus overview includes a profile of Michael Clark, plus Ashley Page/Gaby Agis and Ian Spink’s Further and Further into Night all from 1984. Also on the programme, two short Dance House films by Jonathan Lunn (featuring Lauren Potter and Juliet Stephenson) and Aletta Collins.

Programmes subject to change.
