Saburo Teshigawara returns to Dance Umbrella with the revival of Bones in Pages, first brought to London as a solo in the 1993 festival. Originally commissioned as a gallery installation, Bones in Pages uses fine shafts of light reflecting and refracting from broken glass to breathtaking visual effect. Attacking the surrounding space with both furious energy and contrasting delicacy, Teshigawara’s starkly uncompromising approach to choreography makes compulsive viewing.

Now accompanied by two female dancers, the piece sees Teshigawara performing against the intriguing Dance of Air stage installation comprising one thousand books, one thousand shoes and a crow.

"Above all, Teshigawara is an artist who knows how to give physical presence to space and time and music. His body language is captivating since it is perfect in its form, striking a balance between serenity and ecstasy. Rarely has a dancer chiselled his movements with such glass-like clarity, just to dissolve them at the next instant and then recreate them, reshaping his body with flash-like speed."
