Under the joint artistic directorship of María Muñoz and Pep Ramis, Mal Pelo returns to Dance Umbrella with its unique brand of stunning theatricality.
An (el silenci) introduces a third creative collaborator, Andrés Corchero, and a further three performers. In this compelling work, video, dance, text and live music inhabit time and space separately, but are reliant on each other to create the whole.
Text spoken live is overlaid with performance, following the structure of Jean Cocteau’s poem Visite from the book Discours de Grand Sommeil.
“An is a space in which to live, a place where references are to other bodies and the footprints they leave behind. It is a game between the individuals of a group who hardly remember why they are where they are. An is a name, the visitor and the memory. It is a character that we recognise in every one of the performers on stage.” Pep Ramis
With original music performed live by composer Steve Noble and musician Alex Ward, plus additional pieces from Henry Purcell, Nat King Cole and Frankie Avalon, Mal Pelo’s An (el silenci) is full of contrasts and surprises.
