| invisible dances...from afar is a dance performance that can be heard on the telephone but will never be seen. Originally staged in a ‘dark’ theatre in London’s West End, the show was witnessed by an audience of one, the poet and writer Fiona Templeton, who recorded her experience of the extraordinary two-hour long performance as it happened. The nine dancers knew that if they stopped performing their audience would have nothing to describe and she knew that if she stopped talking that the show would disappear.
The resulting vivid and poetic account can be heard at any time if you dial 020 7505 4745 between 5 Oct and 27 Nov (calls charged at standard BT rates).
The haunting images of each of the 36 scenes of the same performance taken by photographer Henrik Thorup Knudsen, along with Fiona Templeton’s account and additional texts by Rose English, Martin Hargreaves and the spirit medium James Brown, will be reproduced in a limited edition publication. Designed by Lewis Nicholson this will coincide with the launch of the sound work for telephone. For details contact nicky@artsadmin.co.uk t: 020 7247 5102.
